A new study has found that the more you take Viagra the better. That's right, men who take it should see a doctor, and that's because men who take Viagra have a more severe and permanent problem.

It's a common problem that some guys in the U. S. have, but the FDA is still trying to figure out how to lower that risk. That's because so many of these men have had erectile dysfunction, and the good news is that Viagra has been on the market for a long time.

"I've been able to find a good cause for that," said Dr. Scott Smith, a urologist at Lenox Hill Hospital and a co-author of the study.

The drug, which is known as sildenafil, works on the same principle as other erectile dysfunction drugs, said Dr. Smith, who also is a urologist.

"It's been clinically proven that it works. It's been proven that it can increase a man's sex drive," he said. "That's great."

But men who take the drug often have symptoms of impotence that don't seem to respond to a more powerful drug. That's because Viagra, which is taken only once a day, can work on erectile dysfunction, but there's no evidence that it will do so safely.

Smith said the problem is more of a side effect than a drug, but he believes it could be caused by other factors, including other medications or the fact that men take it more frequently than other erectile dysfunction drugs, like Cialis or Levitra.

"It's a side effect," Smith said.

He said that the study does show that Viagra causes some men to have a different problem, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the problem is permanent. It could be because the problem is so severe it can't be treated, Smith said.

If the problem is so severe, Smith said, then the only way to treat it is to get a treatment that's effective.

The FDA is also considering ways to lower the risk of men who take Viagra to 20 percent, according to Smith. That's because the drug has been known to cause more serious side effects, such as fainting, heart problems, and even death.

"The FDA says it's safer to take Viagra if you're thinking of using it," Smith said.

And if the problem is more serious, the FDA is currently working on a drug called sildenafil citrate that is similar to Viagra, the drug that makes Cialis. But that drug is only available with a prescription, so the FDA has not decided if a person can take the drug with a prescription or not.

Smith said that in the past, doctors who prescribed Viagra or Cialis have found a different problem with Viagra. The drug is usually taken every four to six hours, and doctors are sometimes asked how often the drug is taken.

If the problem is so severe that Viagra isn't working, Smith said, it might be because of other problems, too.

The FDA is currently reviewing the potential use of sildenafil in the U. S., he said. But he also said that he's still looking for ways to lower the risk of men who take the drug to 20 percent.

"We've tried to keep our eye on people who have a more severe ED problem, and that's not a good thing," he said.

If you or a loved one have been taking Viagra for a long time, or if you have other problems, talk to them.

VIAGRA

VIAGRA (vardenafil hydrochloride) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men.

In patients with erectile dysfunction, the effects of vardenafil hydrochloride are similar to those of sildenafil. However, sildenafil has a greater effect on erectile function than vardenafil.

In patients with chronic pulmonary arterial hypertension, the phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor vardenafil causes a lower incidence of arterial hypertension, which increases the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction. It has not been shown to cause increased risk of cardiac arrest.

Indications

Vardenafil is indicated in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). It is also indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors should have vardenafil hydrochloride as first-line therapy.

The drug is indicated for the treatment of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Contraindications

Patients with hypersensitivity to vardenafil, sildenafil or any other components of this medicine, heart failure, low blood pressure, strokes, peripheral edema (e.g. peripheral vascular disease), or any other component of this medicine should not take vardenafil. Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported in patients with cardiovascular disease, including angina. Hypotension should be avoided in patients with heart failure or cardiovascular disease.

Patients with hypersensitivity to nitrates and organic nitrates have been reported to have an increased risk of a sudden death in patients taking vardenafil. Patients with these rare but serious hypersensitivity reactions have been advised to seek immediate medical assistance.

Side effects

The most common side effects of vardenafil hydrochloride (10%) were headache (5%), flushing (4%), dyspepsia (4%), nasal congestion (2%) and visual disturbances (2%).

The most common side effects of sildenafil (10%) were headache (5%), dyspepsia (4%), nasal congestion (2%) and visual disturbances (2%).

Mode of action

The drug increases the levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) by binding to and relaxing cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5).

The drug is a PDE5 inhibitor. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. It is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Vardenafil has no effect on the activity of PDE5. Inhibits the degradation of cGMP.

Interaction

Vardenafil has a moderate degree of inhibition of PDE5, which is not expected to be as high as those of sildenafil (approximately 80%).

The inhibition of PDE5 by vardenafil does not appear to affect the pharmacokinetics of sildenafil.

Use in children

The drug is not indicated in children under the age of 18 years. In clinical studies, the safety of vardenafil has not been established. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients of this age.

Mode of administration

The recommended dose of vardenafil hydrochloride for the treatment of erectile dysfunction is 100 mg taken orally once a day. The dose should be taken at least 1 hour before sexual activity, and the effects should last from 4 hours to 6 hours. In a large clinical study of patients with erectile dysfunction, a dose of 10 mg taken orally once a day had an effect similar to that of vardenafil at 4 hours, but it was much less potent (compared with placebo). In a larger clinical study, vardenafil 5 mg taken orally once a day was as effective as sildenafil at increasing the duration of treatment with vardenafil, and in most patients, greater sexual stimulation was sufficient to achieve an erection at the desired size.

The duration of treatment with vardenafil should be at least 4 hours. Patients should be advised not to touch their penis, as the medication can cause numbness and tingling in the patient. If a patient is sexually stimulated, vardenafil can worsen erectile dysfunction symptoms.
